OFGEM Approved meters
It is a legal requirement that you use an Ofgem approved
meter if you are going to collect revenue from the meter
readings displayed or transmitted to a data collection
system. In addition, for electricity supplies to domestic customers
by a licensed supplier, an Ofgem approved and cer tified
meter must be used. Certification is a guarantee of each
meter’s accuracy.
Non OFGEM Approved meters
If however you are using a meter for internal monitoring
and revenue will not be taken from reading the meter, then
you do not have to use an Ofgem approved meter.
From the above it can be seen that care must be taken
when choosing meters to ensure that they are suitable for
their intended use.
Owner's responsability
Whatever type of meter is used it remains the owner’s
responsibility to ensure that it is maintained in good
working order.
